What an invoice needs in New Zealand

Sales of $200 or less (including GST): you don't have to give a GST-registered buyer anything specific, but both of you keep records.
Over $200: your name or trading name and GST number, the date, a description of what you supplied, and the amount including GST.
Over $1,000: also the buyer's name and something that identifies them (address, phone, email or NZBN), the quantity, and the GST shown separately or a statement that the total includes GST.
Since 1 April 2023 the words "Tax Invoice" are optional. Many clients still look for them, so it does no harm to include them.
Only charge GST if you're registered. Registration is required once your turnover goes over $60,000 in 12 months.
